Trevor Rogers' studio headshot session with James Newell Osterberg - 'Jim' AKA Iggy Pop - shot for the *I'm Bored* single cover with art director Paul Henry, doubling as press imagery and badge artwork.
Jim was, in Trevor's words, the most animated subject he ever shot - practising cheek and jaw movement daily, shifting expression and eye movement frame to frame, at one point pulling out his own take on Robert Mitchum's screen 'look' for the camera. For the headshots, Trevor built a green paper background, lit with a strong green gel on a lamp either side to lift its saturation. Two 8ft × 4ft flats - white inside, black out - flanked the set, angled to catch the lamps and bounce an even wash of colour back without spilling onto the subject. A warm gel on the hair light lifted Jim clear of the background. For once, he shot the session in a dark top rather than topless - engaging and in constant motion in front of the lens throughout. Shot on a trusty Hasselblad.
An Estate Original, finished in a black wooden frame with glass - 40×40cm.
A limited, numbered edition of 35, each print bearing the Trevor Rogers Photography stamp.
