Photographed at the Race of Champions, Brands Hatch, 22nd March 1970, this intimate image captures Graham Hill OBE (1929–1975) having his helmet strapped on in the cockpit of his Rob Walker Racing Lotus 49C — a moment of stillness before the race begins.

Two-time Formula One World Champion — 1962 with BRM and 1968 with Lotus — Hill was one of the most complete and courageous figures in the history of the sport. He is the only driver ever to win motorsport's Triple Crown: the Formula One World Championship, the Indianapolis 500 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

What gives this photograph added significance is that Hill arrived at Brands Hatch still recovering from a serious accident at Watkins Glen the previous year, in which he broke both legs. That he was back in the cockpit at all, racing at the highest level against the very best drivers in the world, spoke everything of the man's extraordinary determination and spirit.

Each made to order print is produced using archival giclée printing on Canson Baryta gloss paper - a premium fine art paper favoured by professional photographers for its exceptional detail, rich tonal range, and long-lasting colour. Your print arrives with a certificate of authenticity, personally included with every order.
